Maruti Suzuki is seemingly one of the last four-wheeler manufacturers to enter the electric vehicle space. The company first showcased the eVX during the 2023 Auto Expo and then at the 2024 Bharat Mobility Expo. The electric SUV has been spotted testing on the street many times since then.
Most recently, a video of the Maruti Suzuki eVX test mule was uploaded to the Rolling Cars channel on YouTube. The new video gives us a little more insight into what to expect in the SUV, along with some interesting new details.
The eVX is a ground-up electric SUV based on Maruti Suzuki’s dedicated skateboard platform. This means it does not share anything – from design to specifications – with any of its stable mates, unlike other SUVs in its segment.
In terms of design, the test mule’s front is slightly different from the concept showcased at the expos. The headlamps are slightly larger than the concept and are housed in single pods rather than the split setup that seems to be the trend now. Over on the side, the rear door handle is mounted on the C-pillar like we see on the third-gen Swift.
A high spoiler highlights the rear of the car and the taillights seem to be connected. The car is heavily camouflaged and many details in the panel-work are obscure, but the general silhouette stays fairly true to the concept.
The front left fender houses the charging port for the EV and there are cameras on the front just below the grille, under the outside rear view mirror and behind the inside rear view mirror, possibly for ADAS (advanced driver assistance system) tech.
Interior features
Over on the inside, you spot a large free-standing display. This houses both the driver’s instrument cluster as well as the infotainment system. There aren’t a lot of details out there about the interiors, but some of the features we could expect are dual-zone climate control, powered driver’s seat, ventilated front seats, sunroof, wireless charger and connected car tech, among others.
If ADAS is implemented on the eVX, we also get a host of safety systems such as autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and blind spot monitoring.
Powering the eVX is expected to be an approximately 60 kWh battery pack along with possibly a smaller 45 kWh unit. Whether we get a single or dual motor AWD layout, however, we will have to wait and see. The larger of the two battery packs, however, is expected to return 550 km on a single charge.
The Maruti Suzuki eVX is slated to make it to the streets sometime in 2025. With its length measuring 4,300 mm, the eVX is slated to go up against the likes of the MG ZS EV as well as the Hyundai Creta EV, which is currently in development and shares a similar launch schedule.
