JSW Group may revive plans to manufacture electric cars: Report

In 2019, JSW Group announced its foray into the EV manufacturing business. However, barely 18 months after the announcement, the company abandoned this plan owing to high uncertainties

After abandoning an entry into the electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing space in 2019, Sajjan Jindal’s JSW Group is reconsidering the manufacture of EV cars again. The difference this time is that the EV business will likely taken up by a private group entity, unlike the group's previous bid which was under JSW Energy.

"The group had examined EV manufacturing plans earlier also but now it is becoming attractive," JSW Group Chief Financing Officer Seshagiri Rao told PTI.

The manufacturing of EVs is being discussed actively at the group level, he said while divulging JSW Group's plan to expand its presence into more sectors.

On the timeline for the launch of an EV manufacturing facility, he said, "it (plan) is at advanced stages."
