PM Modi inaugurates new campus of Nalanda University in Bihar's Rajgir

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 19 inaugurated the new campus of Nalanda University at Rajgir in Bihar.

Governor Rajendra V Arlekar, chief minister Nitish Kumar and external affairs minister S Jaishankar were also present on the occasion.

Before inaugurating the new campus, Modi visited Nalanda Mahaviharaâ, a UNESCO world heritage site located close to the varsity.

The educational institute was established through the Nalanda University Act in 2010 and it started functioning in 2014.

The ancient Nalanda University, which existed since the fifth century, attracted students from all over the world. It flourished for 800 years before being destroyed by invaders in the 12th century, according to experts.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the new campus of Nalanda University in Bihar's Rajgir, PM Modi said Nalanda is not just a name, but an identity of India's academic heritage.

The PM added Nalanda University is a significant development for India. Nalanda is not just a name, but a symbol of pride. While books may burn, the spirit of Nalanda endures, reiterated PM Modi.

I would like to thank our neighboring nations for their support and extend my gratitude to the people of Bihar for their contributions, said PM Modi after inauguration of new Nalanda university campus.
