Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal's wife Sunita on Thursday held another press conference to deliver the message of her jailed husband. In his message, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo advised his party legislators to visit their constituencies every day to address the grievances of people.
What was noteworthy about the briefing by Sunita Kejriwal was the backdrop -- which showed the picture of Arvind Kejriwal behind the bars alongside two separate images of Shaheed Bhagat Singh and Dr B R Ambedkar.
As Sunita Kejriwal continued to read out his message, social media users were quick to notice the strategic placement of Kejriwal's picture. Several users took to micro blogging platform X and lashed out at the party for equating the jailed minister with Bhagat Singh and BR Ambedkar.
Sunita Kejriwal, while reading out the message of Arvind from jail, said that the Delhi chief minister is concerned for the two crore citizens of the national capital.
“I am in jail and due to this, people of Delhi should not face any problem. Every MLA should visit their constituency every day and ask people about the issues being faced by them. All the grievances should be addressed,” she quoted Arvind Kejriwal as saying.
Arvind Kejriwal was sent to 14-day judicial custody on April 1 in connection with a money laundering case filed relating to the now-scrapped Delhi Excise Policy 2021-2022. He was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on March 21 after skipping nine summons from the probe agency.
The Delhi Chief Minister was instructed to appear before the agency. However, he consistently skipped all summons, contending that they were “illegal” and politically motivated.
Meanwhile, AAP MLAs met Arvind Kejriwal's wife Sunita Kejriwal and asserted that the Delhi chief minister should continue to run the government from jail and not step down. Since Kejriwal can interact with her through video conferencing from Tihar jail, the MLAs urged Sunita Kejriwal to communicate to him their message that he should keep running the government from behind bars without tendering his resignation.
The BJP has demanded that Kejriwal should resign as chief minister following his arrest in connection with the alleged liquor policy scam.
