A TVK supporter fainted while he was on the way to the party rally in Madurai on Thursday. India Today reported that the supporter was rushed to the hospital but later passed away.
Television reports said that the 33-year-old man from Chennai, identified as Prabhakaran, died after collapsing on his way to attend the TVK conference in Madurai.
According to the Dean of Madurai Government Rajaji Hospital, Prabhakaran had left Chennai last night with his friends in a van to travel to the event. The vehicle halted near Chakkimangalam in Madurai, where he stepped out to relieve himself.
When he did not return, his friends went looking for him and found him lying unconscious. He was rushed to the ICU of Madurai Government Rajaji Hospital, where doctors later declared him dead.
TVK president and actor Vijay was seen waving at thousands of supporters and fans that had gathered in Madurai for the rally. Vijay also paid floral tributes to the portraits of TVK’s ideological leaders and also hoisted the party flag.
The supporter's death comes just one day after a 19-year-old fan of Vijay died of electrocution in Tamil Nadu’s Virudhunagar district on Wednesday while he was trying to hoist a Tamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) flag outside a house.
The victim was identified as Kaleeshwaran from Vanniyampatti and was a BA Visual Communication student. Police said that he was trying to hoist the TVK flag outside the house of a local resident, Muthukumar, ahead of the party’s public meeting scheduled in Madurai on Thursday.
While trying to hoist the flag, Kaleeshwaran came in contact with a live electric wire and died on the spot. Police registered a case after the victim's death and launched a probe into the matter.
