Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on August 11 backed Rahul Gandhi over ‘vote theft’ allegations and said the Election Commission of India should provide answers ‘credibly’.
"For me, the issue is very simple. Rahul Gandhi has raised some serious questions; they deserve serious answers,” Tharoor said during INDIA bloc’s protest march against the poll body over the Special Intensive Revision of electoral roll in Bihar and the allegations of voter fraud in 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Tharoor said the EC not only has a ‘responsibility’ towards the nation, but also towards itself to not leave “any doubts” on the credibility of our elections in the minds of the people.
“Our democracy is too precious to be jeopardised by doubts about whether there is duplicate voting, whether there are multiple addresses, or whether there are fake votes. If there are doubts in people's minds, they should be addressed,” he said.

“There may be answers available to these questions, but those answers must be provided credibly. That is my only request that the Election Commission should take the questions and address them.”
Meanwhile, the Delhi Police has detained Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut, TMC MP Sagarika Ghose, and several others during the protest march, taking all of them to the Parliament Street police station.
Rahul Gandhi said that the Opposition's fight is not a political fight but a fight to save the constitution.
"The reality is that they cannot talk. The truth is in front of the country. This fight is not political. This fight is to save the Constitution. This fight is for One Man, One Vote. We want a clean, pure voters list," the Congress leader said.
