Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Sunday afternoon, inaugurated Bengaluru Metro’s 19-km Yellow Line between RV Road and Bommasandra, which connects Electronics City.
He flagged off the line and took a Metro ride from RV Road (Ragigudda) to Electronics City station.
Modi also interacted with students on board the Metro, while BJP cadres gathered at stations to welcome him and chant in his support. Cultural performances were held at several stations. Modi also interacted with women Metro staff and others.
The Yellow Line, part of the Phase-2 project, has 16 stations and has been built at a cost of around Rs 7,160 crore. With the opening of the Yellow Line, the operational metro network in Bengaluru will increase to 96 km.

Bengaluru Metro, operational since 2011, now consists of 33.4 km Green Line (Madavara-Silk Institute) with 31 stations and 43.4 km Purple Line (Challaghatta- Whitefield) with 38 stations and Yellow Line.
This makes it the second-largest metro network in the country after Delhi Metro, which began operations in December 2002 and now spans 353.3 km.
Construction of the Yellow Line began in 2017 and was supposed to be completed in 2021, but was delayed by three years due to factors such as shortage of rolling stock following the Indo-China standoff and disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Yellow Line has three interchange stations: Rashtriya Vidyalaya Road with Green Line, Jayadeva with Pink Line (Kalena Agrahara–Nagawara corridor), and Central Silk Board with the upcoming Blue Line (Central Silk Board–Kempegowda International Airport).
Running along key technology corridors that house companies such as Infosys, Wipro, Biocon, Delta, and Tech Mahindra, Yellow Line will also improve connectivity to surrounding residential areas, hospitals, educational institutions, and industrial hubs on Hosur Road.
The 16 stations on Yellow Line are: RV Road, Ragigudda, Jayadeva, BTM Layout, Central Silk Board, Bommanahalli, Hongasandra, Kudlu Gate, Singasandra, Hosa Road, Beratena Agrahara, Electronics City, Infosys Foundation Konappana Agrahara, Huskuru Road, Biocon Hebbagodi and Delta Electronics Bommasandra.
BMRCL plans to operate trains every 25 minutes in both directions, with stoppages at all stations. Services will begin with three trains, making about 72 trips in each direction daily over an 18-hour window.
The maximum fare within the Yellow Line will be Rs 60, while the maximum fare for trips involving Purple and Green Lines will be Rs 90. For example, Whitefield (Purple Line) to Bommasandra (Yellow Line) journey, one of the longest routes, will cost Rs 90.
Karnataka Governor Thawarchand Ghelot, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy CM DK Shivakumar, Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar, Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya, and others were present.
Modi also laid the foundation stone for the Rs 15,610-crore Bengaluru Metro Phase 3 project, which will add over 44 km of network with 31 elevated stations, catering to residential, industrial, commercial, and educational areas. He also flagged off three Vande Bharat Express trains from KSR Bengaluru City railway station, connecting Bengaluru to Belagavi, Amritsar to Sri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, and Nagpur (Ajni) to Pune.
India is now the world’s third-largest metro network, spanning 1,013 km in 23 cities, with daily ridership topping 1.12 crore.
