The Election Commission of India has announced a nationwide Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in 12 states and Union Territories.
Apart from poll-bound states, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Goa, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Union Territories of Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep will also be part of SIR. Draft rolls will be published on December 9, and the final electoral rolls on February 7.
Each assembly constituency will have an Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) in charge, assisted by Booth-Level Officers (BLOs) who will visit homes to verify voter details and collect forms. The polls panel issued forms 6, 7 and 8 in this regard.
What is Form 6?
Any citizen of India who has completed 18 years of age can fill Form 6 and submit the same to the electoral registration officer concerned. It must be submitted along with the SIR declaration form in the enumeration phase.
After scrutiny and verification, the name of the applicant will be entered in the voters list. In Bihar, the new electors’ forms were only processed during the claims and objections period. It was after the one-month enumeration period.
What is Form 7?
Form 7 is the official application used by voters to either object to someone's inclusion in the electoral roll or request deletion of a name already listed. Form 7 should be used when a voter notices a mistake or outdated entry in the list (such as a deceased person’s name); the person has shifted residence and someone is incorrectly registered (for example, underage or not a citizen).
What is Form 8?
Voters can make changes or correct mistakes in their voter cards via Form 8. On can rectify inaccuracies, such as a misspelled name, incorrect age, or wrong address. It can also be used to correct date of birth, gender, name of a relative, or the photo. The application should be addressed to the Electoral Registration Officer of the constituency in which the name of the applicant is already included.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar said Aadhaar cards can be used for identification only. He also said t training of polling officials for Phase-II of SIR will begin on Tuesday.

The EC has listed these following documents that may be used for verification:
Any Identity card/Pension Payment Order issued to regular employee/pensioner of any Central Govt./State Govt./PSU
•Any Identity Card/Certificate/Document issued in India by Government/local authorities/Banks/Post Office/LIC/PSUs prior to 01.07.1987
•Birth Certificate issued by the competent authority
•Passport
•Matriculation/Educational certificate issued by recognised Boards/universities
•Permanent Residence certificate issued by competent state authority
•Forest Right Certificate
•OBC/SC/ST or any caste certificate issued by the Competent authority
•National Register of Citizens (wherever it exists)
•Family Register, prepared by State/Local authorities
•Any land/house allotment certificate by government
For Aadhaar, Commission's directions issued vide letter No. 23/2025-ERS/Vol.Il dated 09.09.2025 shall apply.
