New Pune airport gets site clearance; in-principle nod to Jewar

The new airport will come up at an estimated cost of Rs 14,000 crore and will be spread across 2,400 hectare.

The civil aviation ministry today gave site clearance approval to the proposed greenfield international airport at Purander, some 20 km from Pune, over two-and-a-half years after state Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced the location of the new aerodrome.

Besides, the ministry also accorded 'in-principle' approval to the Uttar Pradesh government for setting up of a greenfield international airport at Jewar village in Noida (UP), an official release said.

"Accepting the recommendations made by the steering committee on greenfield airports, civil aviation minister Suresh Prabhu today accorded site clearance approval to the greenfield international airport at Purander, Pune," the release said.

The minister also accorded 'in-principle' approval to the UP government for setting up of Noida international greenfield airport at the north of Jewar Village in the state, it added.
