The Delhi State Legal Services Authority along with the Delhi Traffic Police has announced National Lok Adalat 2025, a platform to settle pending traffic fines. The Lok Adalat, first of the year 2025, is an alternative redressal system where disputes or cases pending in court can be settled amicably.
The traffic challans and notices of all types of vehicles (including commercial vehicles) which are shown as pending on Delhi Traffic Police portal till November 30, 2024, can be settled in the Lok Adalat.
Ajay Chaudhry, Special Commissioner (Traffic) of Delhi Police urged vehicle owners to settle their pending challans in the Lok Adalat. “I urge the vehicle owners to come forward and settle their pending Delhi Traffic Police challans including spot challans, challans for violation of GRAP norms (pollution fines), notices, etc at the National Lok Adalat which is being held on March 8, 2025 from 10AM to 4PM. The vehicle owners should not miss this opportunity,” he said while speaking to ET Wealth Online.
Where and how many challans can be settled?
According to the Delhi Traffic Police, the Lok Adalat will be held at the following complexes of Dwarka Court, Karkardooma Court, Patiala House Court, Rohini Court, Rouse Avenue Court, Saket Court, and Tis Hazari Court.
As many as 180 Lok Adalat benches will be constituted on March 8 and each of them will handle up to 1,000 traffic challans. This means that as many as 1,80,000 challans are expected to be settled in a single day, the department informed. “A maximum of five notices and two challans can be settled per private vehicle. The limit for commercial vehicles is two notices or challans.”
Types of cases
There are two broad categories of cases that will be taken into consideration at National Lok Adalat- Traffic police and others. The others category include:
• Bank recovery cases
• Consumer disputes
• Family disputes (excluding divorce cases)
• Land acquisition cases
• Electricity and water bill disputes (excluding theft cases)
• Labour disputes
• Criminal compoundable offences
• Revenue cases (pending in District courts and High Courts only)
• Other civil cases
The next Lok Adalat is scheduled to be held on May 10. Further dates for the Lok Adalat are September 13 and December 13.
