Toll rates at major plazas across Karnataka will rise by up to 5 percent from April 1, with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) revising the rate across the country.
The hike, based on the annual wholesale price index, will also impact motorists travelling to the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) and Bengaluru's Satellite Town Ring Road (STRR).
Starting April 1, NHAI will raise user fees at the Sadahalli (Devanahalli toll plaza on NH 7, which serves KIA, and Hulikunte and Nalluru Devanahalli plazas on NH 648, part of the STRR.
The revised rates will be applicable at most toll plazas in the state, depending on the concessionaire agreement, KB Jayakumar, project director, NHAI, Bengaluru, said . The hike would range between three to five percent, he said.
Charges at the Electronics City toll plaza on Hosur Road will continue to be revised on July 1, as part of a separate concessionaire agreement.
After the revision, cars, jeeps, vans, and other light commercial vehicles (LCVs) passing through the Sadahalli toll plaza will pay Rs 120 for a single journey and Rs 180 for return journey within a day. The monthly pass for 50 single journeys will cost Rs 3,970.
At present, single journey charge is Rs 115, Rs 170 for a return journey and Rs 3,835 for a monthly pass.
LCVs and minibuses will pay Rs 185 for a single journey, Rs 275 for a return journey, and Rs 6,100 for a monthly pass, compared to the present Rs 175, Rs 265, and Rs 5,890, respectively.
For trucks and buses, the revised toll is Rs 370 for a single journey, Rs 550 for a return journey, and Rs 12,265 for a monthly pass, up from Rs 355, Rs 535, and Rs 11,845, respectively.
The increased toll is expected to impact all commurers, including those using cabs, private vehicles, and state-owned Vayu Vajra bus services.
In response to a question in the Rajya Sabha, Union road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari said that the Devanahalli plaza collected Rs 308 crore in 2023-24 and Rs 1,577 crore in the last 10 years, the highest collection for a road plaza in Karnataka.
On the STRR, cars and other LCVs traveling on the 42-km Dobbspet-Doddaballapur stretch will pay Rs 110 for a single journey, Rs 165 for return and Rs 3,615 for a monthly pass at the Hulikunte toll plaza. At present, a single journey costs Rs 105, return Rs 155, and monthly pass Rs 3,490.
On the 34.15-Km Doddaballapur bypass-Hoskote stretch, motorists will be charged Rs 85 for a single journey and Rs 125 for a return journey at the Nalluru Devanahalli plaza against the present Rs 70 and Rs 105.
