The Jehanabad Assembly constituency is one of the 243 constituencies in the Bihar Legislative Assembly. It will go to polls in the second phase of elections on November 11.
The Jehanabad seat has seen 17 elections since its creation in 1951. What began as a Congress stronghold, with the party winning six of the first nine elections, gradually became RJD territory. The RJD's ascendancy began in 2000, and since then the party has claimed the seat six times. Their winning streak might have extended to seven consecutive victories had Congress not fielded a candidate in 2010 who siphoned off over 13,000 votes, nearly half of what the RJD polled. This division allowed JD(U) to snatch victory. Currently, the seat is held by Suday Yadav, the brother-in-law of RJD patriarch Lalu Prasad Yadav.
