Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 21 said that India is moving swiftly on the solar energy scale. The country has set a target of reducing the carbon footprint by 30 to 35 percent, he said.
The prime minister was addressing the students on the eighth convocation of Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, through video conference.
The PM said that solar power has become an integral part of the nation, adding that they have aimed for 175 GW renewable energy till 2022.
He further said that efforts are on to increase the use of natural gas capacity four times during this decade, and work is also on to nearly double the oil refining capacity in the next five years.
Speaking on the occasion, PM Modi appealed to youth of the country to move forward with a clean slate and a clean heart, which means clean intentions.
“Two things are very important in life - Clean Slate and Clean Heart. Today's generation has to move forward with a Clean Slate. The thought that remains in the minds of some people that nothing will change, this will have to be cleaned. And Clean Heart means clean intention,” said the PM.
He further told the students that there is no such thing that cannot happen. “There's either 'I will make it happen, or I will not make it happen'. Change, in yourself or in the world, never happens in a day or year. Sustained efforts are needed perpetually can only lead to changes,” said the prime minister on the day.
