Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually flag off the second Vande Bharat Express for Gorakhpur on Friday, announced Railway Board Chairman and CEO Satish Kumar. The new Vande Bharat train will connect Patliputra in Bihar to Gorakhpur via Muzaffarpur and Narkatiaganj, further boosting connectivity in the region. This will be the 72nd Vande Bharat Express to operate in the country.
The Vande Bharat Express will operate six days a week except on Saturday. The train will depart Patliputra at 3.30 pm and reach Gorakhpur at 10.30 pm, covering a distance of 384 km in seven hours. The train will have two two-minute stoppages at Hajipur, Muzaffarpur, Motihari, Sagauli, Bettiah, Narkatiaganj, Bagaha, Kaptanganj and finally terminate at Gorakhpur.
The Vande Bharat 2.0 trains have the KAVACH (Train Collision Avoidance System) for enhanced safety in operations. There will be improved security with four emergency windows added in every coach. There will be four platform side cameras including rear view cameras outside the coach instead of two earlier. The new coaches have Level-II safety integration certification for better train control. The Vande Bharat 2.0 will also have better fire safety measures with aerosol-based fire detection and suppression system in all electrical cubicles and toilets. There will be superior floodproofing for under-slung electrical equipment to withstand floods up to 650 mm height as compared to 400 mm earlier. The train will also have four emergency lighting in every coach in case of electric failure.
Meanwhile, addressing the media, the Railway Board chief highlighted a record budget allocation of Rs 19,858 crore for railway development in Uttar Pradesh for 2025-26, 8 times more than the average outlay during 2009–2014.
He further noted that 157 stations in the state, including 58 in the NER zone, are being redeveloped under the Amrit Bharat scheme.
He also provided updates on major capacity expansion projects such as new lines and third-line construction across eastern UP, including the Khalilabad-Bahraich corridor and doubling work between Domingarh and Kusmhi.
During his visit, Kumar assured union leaders that he would prioritise addressing employee concerns regarding promotions, wages, and workplace safety. PTI CORR ABN ABN MPL MPL
