Lawrence Bishnoi, the dreaded gangster, has been named as the president of a registered blackbuck protection wildlife group, multiple media reports say.
According to a report by The Print, the organisation - All India Animal Protection Bishnoi Samaj - has nominated the 33-year-old as the chief of its youth wing. Bishnoi, who is currently lodged in Gujarat's Sabamarti Jail, has over three dozen cases against him.
Recently Canada's Justin Trudeau administration had alleged him of carrying out contract killing on Canadian soil. In India, the Bishnoi faces cases in Punjab, Delhi Haryana and Rajasthan.
A New Indian Express report said that the wildlife group had held a meeting on October 29 and decided to appoint the gangster as the youth wing chief. The group- All India Animal Protection Bishnoi Samaj – was formed in 1977 and is a registered organisation. The founder of the group was known environmentalist late Sant ram Bishnoi. According to The Print report, the environmentalist was cousin of Lawrence Bishnoi’s grandfather.
“It is certified that Mr Lawrence Bishnoi, son of Mr Ravindra, resident of Dutranwali village, Abohar Tehsil, Fazilka district, Punjab, is appointed as the national president of the youth wing of the All India Jeev Raksha Bishnoi Sabha… Your responsibility is to advance the noble cause of wildlife protection and environmental conservation,” states the document which has gone viral on social media.
