Parkash Singh Badal, former Punjab Chief Minister and Akali Dal leader, has returned Padma Vibhushan to protest "betrayal of farmers by government".
The decision comes months after the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) quit the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) over the then farm bills. His decision has drawn reaction from various people.
Parminder Singh Brar, the president of Student Organisation of India, has said Punjabis are proud of Badal's decision.
Manjinder Singh Sirsa, President - Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management committee, has said that the senior leader sacrificed personal glory for the larger interest of the society.
Meanwhile, Rajya Sabha MP Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa has also returned the Padma award. The SAD (Democratic) chief resigned from SAD in 2019. President Ram Nath awared Padma Vibhushan to Dhindsa in 2019 for his contribution in the field of public affairs.
