Fact check: India dismisses pro-Pakistan social media claims of Islamabad shooting down Rafale jet

Following the Pahalgam terror attack, that claimed at least 26 lives and injured many more, the diplomatic relations between New Delhi and Islamabad has reached a new low.

India on Tuesday on dismissed several pro-Pakistan social media claims about Islamabad shooting down a Rafale fighter jet.

"Several pro-Pakistan social media accounts are falsely claiming that Pakistan has shot down an Indian Rafale fighter jet along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Poonch sector of Kashmir," read a tweet by the Press Information Bureau.

Dismissing the rumours, the PIB tweet went on add the following details on the video widely being circulated: 1) Pakistan Army has NOT shot down any Indian fighter jet. 2) The video shared is of a Sukhoi-30MKI fighter jet that crashed in Maharashtra in June 2024. 3) Users are advised to exercise caution while sharing unverified claims circulating on social media platforms.

Following the Pahalgam terror attack, that claimed at least 26 lives and injured many more, the diplomatic relations between New Delhi and Islamabad has reached a new low. Following India's bouquet of punitive actions, Pakistan has closed its airspace for Indian carriers and issued a host of public statements warning India of severe consequences if New Delhi fails to revoke the suspension of Indus Waters Treaty.
