The allegations came as the Kolkata Police on August 20 began an investigation against Ghosh for his alleged involvement in "financial irregularities" in the state-run health facility

A former deputy superintendent of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata has claimed that Sandip Ghosh -- who resigned as the principal following the rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor on the institute’s premises -- was involved in several illegal activities including the selling of unclaimed bodies, trafficking medical waste as well as taking bribes from students.

In an interview with News18, Akhtar Ali alleged that Ghosh ran a nexus from the hospital, earning lakhs from illegal activities. Ali had raised an alarm about the illegal activities before the vigilance department among others about Ghosh in 2023 but no action was taken. Instead, he was transferred from RG Kar Hospital for being the whistle blower.
