Tesla in India
Tesla officially entered the Indian market on July 15, opening its first showroom in Mumbai. Located in the upscale Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) inside Maker Maxity Mall, the facility serves as an “experience centre,” allowing visitors to explore Tesla models up close and learn more about electric vehicles.
Following this, a second showroom opening in the national capital at Aerocity.
The Model Y is the primary car being sold, and is available in two versions in the country: the Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) and the Long Range All-Wheel Drive (AWD). The ex-showroom price of the RWD version is Rs 59.89 lakh, while the AWD variant is priced at Rs 67.89 lakh. On-road prices in Mumbai can reach up to Rs 69.15 lakh.
The first Tesla delivery in India was made to Maharashtra transport minister Pratap Sarnaik. He took delivery of a Model Y directly from the Mumbai showroom.
“I purchased this car to send across a message that the transport minister of the state is getting an EV. In the next 10 years, maximum vehicles in Maharashtra should be electric vehicles. This is the dream of our government. To realise that dream, as transport minister, I purchased this car so that people get more and more EVs,” he told ANI.
