At a public meeting in Bihar’s Siwan district, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that the state would witness the “real Diwali” on November 14 -- the day, he said, when the RJD and its allies would suffer a humiliating defeat in the assembly elections.
During his address, Shah launched a sharp attack on the Lalu Prasad-led Rashtriya Janata Dal, targeting the party’s decision to nominate Osama Shahab, the son of gangster-turned-politician Mohammad Shahabuddin.
“People here must ensure that Shahabuddin's son, contesting from the Raghunathpur seat, faces a humiliating defeat in the assembly polls,” Shah told the crowd, urging voters to reject the RJD’s candidate.
Referring to Bihar’s past, Shah reminded the audience of the difficult years under the rule of Lalu Prasad and Rabri Devi. He remarked that the people of Siwan had “endured the ‘jungle raj’ of Lalu Prasad and Rabri Devi for at least 20 years,” and should now put an end to that legacy through the upcoming election.
“I am confident that people of Bihar will celebrate real Diwali on November 14, when the poll results will be announced. The RJD and its alliance partners will witness a humiliating defeat,” the home minister said.
He said NDA has fielded an ex-IPS officer from that seat.
“For 20 years, A-category history sheeter Shahabuddin, with around 75 cases against him, two jail terms, triple murders, an attack on an SP… he had bathed the sons of a business owner in acid till their skins came off. The brave people of Siwan never surrendered before Shahabuddin," Shah said.
He further said Shahabuddin’s son has been given a ticket by Lalu Prasad Yadav himself from Raghunathpur.
"Now, under the rule of Nitish Kumar and Narendra Modi, even if a 100 Shahabuddin come, no one can do you any harm,” Shah said.
Shah also claimed that the opposition INDIA bloc in Bihar is completely fragmented now.
Flaying the Congress for the recent ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ in the state, he said, “Rahul Gandhi says infiltrators should remain here. But be assured that not a single infiltrator will be allowed to remain in Bihar.”
Shah said, “I had said that I want to hold my first election campaign in Siwan. I want to salute the people of Siwan because for 20 years, this land of Siwan has tolerated the ‘Jungle Raj’ of the Lalu and Rabri government."
He said Siwan tolerated anarchy, murder, and other crimes, "but the people here didn’t bow down and fought against the ‘Jungle Raj'."
