PM Modi meets Canada PM Mark Carney

PM Narendra Modi met today with the Prime Minister of Canada, Mark Carney, on the sidelines of the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg to review progress in the India–Canada partnership.

The leaders agreed to begin negotiations on a high-ambition Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), aimed at doubling bilateral trade to USD 50 billion by 2030. Both sides reaffirmed their longstanding civil nuclear cooperation and noted the ongoing discussions on expanding collaboration, including through long-term uranium supply arrangements. Four militants arrested in Manipur

Security forces in Manipur have arrested four militants belonging to various proscribed outfits, police said on Sunday, according to PTI.

An active cadre of the banned People's Liberation Army was apprehended from a check point in Kakching district on Saturday, while another member of the outfit was nabbed from Moirang Konjengbam in Bishnupur district on the same day, they said.

Amid an ongoing power tussle in the ruling Congress, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah called on party president Mallikarjun Kharge at his residence in Bengaluru, and dismissed speculation of a leadership change in the state.

The chief minister described his meeting with Kharge, who returned from New Delhi on Friday evening, as a courtesy call.

On Friday, Siddaramaiah, who is involved in a power tussle with his deputy and Karnataka Congress chief D K Shivakumar, asserted that he would continue in office and also present state budgets in the future. In response, Shivakumar wished him "all the best".

TVK chief Vijay to resume political campaign following Karur stampede

Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam founder, actor-politician Vijay, is all set to resume his political campaign on Sunday by addressing people at an indoor facility in nearby Kanchipuram district. Vijay would be addressing people after nearly 2 months of Karur stampede in September in which at least 41 people were killed. All arrangements have been made to ensure a smooth conduct of the event, party sources said.

The event is set to be held on the premises of a private educational institution at Sunguvarchattiram in Kanchipuram district. Approximately, 1,500 persons have been given passes and only those who have it would be allowed, they added.

Last month, Vijay met the families of Karur stampede victims at a resort in Mamallapuram, and offered his condolences.

BJD alleges ''manipulation'' in Odisha's Nuapada bypoll, to lodge complaint with EC

The opposition BJD in Odisha has said it will lodge a complaint with the Election Commission to seek "justice", alleging that large-scale "state-sponsored manipulation" took place in the Nuapada bypoll. It alleged poll-rigging at least 63 polling booths.

The decision to lodge the complaint was taken at a meeting of the party's political affairs committee (PAC), chaired by Leader of the Opposition Naveen Patnaik.

The bypoll, held on November 11, witnessed a record voter turnout of 83.45 per cent. BJP's Jay Dholakia won the election by a margin of 83,748 votes, while BJD candidate Snehangini Chhuria was pushed to third place. Congress nominee Ghasiram Majhi finished second.
