Union minister Chirag Paswan on Friday asserted that he did not wish to come across as "greedy" by demanding the deputy chief minister's post, as he thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for allocating two berths to his Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) in the new Bihar cabinet.
Addressing a press conference in Patna, Paswan also said he wished to expand the party's footprints beyond Bihar as "an NDA partner" in states like West Bengal, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh.

Earthquake tremors were felt in West Bengal's Kolkata at 10:10 am and lasted for about 20 seconds as well across the Northeast, according to reports. An earthquake has been reported in Bangladesh with epicentre in Dhaka.
A 5.5-magnitude earthquake struck near Narsingdi, Bangladesh at 10:08 am, according to United States Geological Survey, killing at least six people and leaving dozens injured. Buildings in the country's capital, Dhaka, swayed in the temblor, sending panicked residents into the streets, reported AP.

The Enforcement Directorate on Friday raided the premises of former MLA PV Anvar and some others in Kerala as part of an alleged loan ‘fraud’ linked money laundering investigation, official sources told PTI. The case pertains to alleged fraudulent loans sanctioned by the Kerala Financial Corporation in 2015 leading to a loss of Rs 22.31 crore.
Anvar, 58, has represented the Nilambur constituency as an independent backed by the ruling LDF party of the state. He resigned as an MLA and joined the Trinamool Congress in January.

The Enforcement Directorate is searching 24 locations in the illegal coal mining, illegal transportation and storage of coal case in West Bengal.
The premises include Narendra Kharka, Yudhistar Ghosh, Krishna Murari Kayal, Chinmayi Mondal, Rajkoshore Yadav and others in Durgapur, Purulia, Howrah and Kolkata districts.
More than 100 ED officials and staff are carrying out the searches against coal mafia. The search operation began early Friday morning at around 6 am.
The premises covered include residential properties, offices, coke plants and illegal toll collection booth, check post and naka, say officials as per ANI.

An 83-year-old retired Army colonel here became the latest victim of online fraud, losing Rs 56.05 lakh after scammers impersonating Mumbai police officers threatened him with arrest.
An FIR was registered at the Central CEN crime police station on November 18, officials said on Friday.
According to the FIR, the victim received a call on October 27 from a man identifying himself as Mumbai police Inspector Sanjay Pishe, who claimed that a SIM card issued in the complainant’s name had been used to abuse the public.
