BJP leader Shehzad Poonawalla on May 28 said West Bengal minister and TMC leader Udayan Guha’s remarks, which said “Sindoor is being sold”, have insulted India’s armed forces and its people and the Mamata Banerjee-led party should be renamed as The Mir Jafar Company.

Poonawalla said, "The meaning of TMC today shouldn’t be Trinamool Congress, but The Mir Jafar Company, considering the remarks made by senior TMC leader Udayan Guha on Operation Sindoor. He has not only insulted India’s military but also disrespected the people of India by saying that Sindoor is being sold, mocking those who once sold tea and are now selling the Sindoor.”

The BJP spokesperson said the remarks are an “insult to the poor” and a “mockery” of our armed forces. “This isn’t the first time — TMC has repeatedly insulted the Indian Army, Paramilitary Forces, BSF, and CRPF," he told ANI.

Earlier on Tuesday, the North Bengal development minister targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi ahead of his scheduled visit to Alipurduar in North Bengal on May 29.
