Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President and former Indian cricketer Sourav Ganguly was admitted to a hospital in Kolkata, West Bengal on January 2 after he complained of chest pain, news reports suggested.
The 48-year-old was rushed to the Woodlands Hospital after falling ill while working out in the gym at his residence, some reports suggested.
"Ganguly is stable haemodynamically. He has received loading doses of dual anti-platelets and statin and is undergoing primary angioplasty now," news agency ANI quoted Woodlands Hospital MD & CEO Dr Rupali Basu as saying.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said in a tweet: "Sad to hear that @SGanguly99 suffered a mild cardiac arrest and has been admitted to hospital. Wishing him a speedy and full recovery. My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family!"
"I wish and pray for the speedy recovery of @SGanguly99. I’ve spoken to his family. Dada is stable and is responding well to the treatment," Secretary Jay Shah said in a tweet.
"Dada , jaldi se theek hone ka (get well quickly). Praying for your quick and speedy recovery," former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag said in a tweet.
Affectionately called 'Dada (elder brother)' by his fans, Ganguly played for the national side between 1992 and 2008. He also captained the Indian team in Tests and One Day Internationals (ODIs), including in the 2003 world cup final.
After retirement, Ganguly turned to cricket commentary and administration. Before taking over as the BCCI chief in 2019, he served as president of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB).
