Ayodhya, the city already at the heart of India’s spiritual map, is set to welcome a grand Ramayana-themed wax museum during Deepotsav 2025. The 10,000 square feet museum, being built on the Parikrama Path of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir, will feature nearly 50 lifelike statues of characters from the Ramayana and immersive recreations of iconic episodes.
The project, spearheaded by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has so far seen an investment of nearly Rs 7.5 crore, officials said.
What the museum will showcase
The wax museum will feature statues of Lord Ram, Mata Sita, Lakshman, Lord Hanuman, Sugriv, Jatayu, and other key characters from the epic. Each figure is being crafted with intricate expressions, authentic costumes, and historical accuracy, making them appear lifelike.
Some of the highlights include:
Ram vs Ravana battle recreated in wax artistry
Sita’s abduction and Hanuman’s journey to Lanka
A Ram Setu recreation using a mix of wax and modern technology
Audio-visual effects and interactive displays designed to engage children and youth
The statues are being crafted by a Maharashtra-based organisation in collaboration with experts from Kerala, ensuring authenticity and detail.
Part of Yogi government’s Ayodhya vision
The museum is part of a larger push by the Yogi Adityanath government to establish Ayodhya as a global tourist and cultural hotspot. With the completion of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir, footfall in the city has surged, prompting multiple projects including road widening, beautification of the Saryu ghats, and heritage infrastructure upgrades.
Officials say the museum will not only enrich Ayodhya’s cultural appeal but also project the values of the Ramayana and Indian heritage on a global stage.
Executed under PPP model
Ayodhya Municipal Commissioner Jayendra Kumar said the project is being executed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, similar to the Bhool Bhulaiya project in Amaniganj. He added that construction is progressing rapidly and being closely monitored to meet the Deepotsav deadline.
Divisional Commissioner Rajesh Kumar noted that the Wax Museum will “give a new dimension to Ayodhya’s cultural heritage” while complementing other ongoing development works in the city.
Deepotsav 2025: When will it open?
The wax museum is scheduled to be inaugurated during Deepotsav 2025 celebrations from October 28 to October 31, with the main diya-lighting ceremony on October 30.
Every year, millions of diyas lit in Ayodhya create a spectacle that has earned the city global recognition and world records. This year, with the launch of the Ramayana Wax Museum, the festival is expected to be even more memorable.
