President Droupadi Murmu, on Wednesday, released the Constitution of India in nine languages, including Kashmiri, making it officially accessible in the language for the first time. The launch, part of the nation’s 76th Constitution Day celebrations, was held at Samvidhan Sadan, the former Parliament building in New Delhi.
President Murmu also led the reading of the Preamble, hailing the core principles of democracy, justice, and equality.
The event was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vice President CP Radhakrishnan, Union Ministers including Amit Shah, Nitin Gadkari, Kiren Rijiju, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, and opposition leaders such as Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi.
The digital editions of the Constitution were released in Malayalam, Marathi, Nepali, Punjabi, Bodo, Kashmiri, Telugu, Odia, and Assamese, expanding access for speakers of regional languages across the country.
Alongside, a commemorative booklet titled “Art and Calligraphy in the Indian Constitution” was also unveiled.
This year’s Constitution Day marks 76 years since the adoption of the Constitution on November 26, 1949, and is observed across the country with events in ministries, schools, universities, and public institutions. The government’s official theme for the celebrations is “Hamara Samvidhan, Hamara Swabhiman” (Our Constitution, Our Pride).
The inclusion of Kashmiri in the official release ensures that speakers in the region can now access the full text of the Indian Constitution in their native language
