Supreme Court gives Centre 6 weeks to frame guidelines on ex-gratia compensation for COVID-19 deaths

The Supreme Court has directed the Centre to frame guidelines on compensation for families of those who died due to COVID-19.

The Supreme Court (SC) has directed the Centre to frame guidelines on ex-gratia compensation for families of those who died due to COVID-19.

A bench comprising Justices Ashok Bhushan and MR Shah directed the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to frame guidelines on the ex-gratia compensation within six weeks.

The bench had delivered the verdict in the cases Gaurav Kumar Bansal vs Union of India and Reepak Kansal vs Union of India and others.

The SC held that it cannot specify the amount the government has to pay as the compensation.
