SpaceX-owned Starlink has kicked off its first hiring drive in India, signalling the start of an operational buildout ahead of its much-anticipated satellite broadband launch in the country.
According to listings on the SpaceX careers page, Starlink is recruiting for several finance and accounting positions—including payments manager, accounting manager, senior treasury analyst, and tax manager—as part of its initial hiring phase. All roles are based in Bengaluru, which will serve as Starlink’s operational hub in India.
“As Starlink expands its global footprint to deliver low-latency satellite broadband services worldwide, its Indian subsidiary is looking to hire an accounting manager to oversee financial reporting and compliance,” SpaceX said in one of the job postings.
For the payments manager position, the company said the candidate would handle end-to-end management of payment processing and payment risk operations in India, working closely with Starlink’s global payments team. The role may later expand to cover regional or global responsibilities.
Starlink specified that it is only considering locally based candidates with valid work authorisation, and that remote or hybrid work options are not available.
The hiring comes as Starlink gears up to launch its satellite broadband services in India by late 2025 or early 2026. The company is currently setting up ground infrastructure and undergoing security and compliance trials mandated by the Indian government.
Earlier this week, Starlink reportedly demonstrated its satellite broadband service to law enforcement agencies (LEAs) in Mumbai, allowing authorities to test lawful interception and security mechanisms—a key step before the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) allocates spectrum.
In Mumbai, SpaceX has already set up three ground stations, which will serve as Starlink’s India hub. Officials are expected to conduct on-site inspections this week. Starlink has also applied for approval to establish three gateway stations in Mumbai, Chennai, and Noida, with plans to expand to 9–10 gateways across cities such as Chandigarh, Kolkata, and Lucknow after launch.
As part of its India setup, Starlink has leased an office in Mumbai’s Chandivali area. Property records accessed via Propstack show that Starlink Satellite Communications has rented a 1,294 sq ft office on the ground floor of Boomerang, a commercial building in Chandivali.
The five-year lease, signed on October 14, carries a monthly rent of Rs 3.52 lakh and an annual escalation of 5%, along with a Rs 31.7 lakh security deposit. Though modest in size, this marks Starlink’s first reported office in Mumbai, aligning with its broader localisation plans.
Once commercially launched, Starlink will compete with Eutelsat OneWeb and Jio Satellite, all of which have received regulatory clearances but are awaiting final spectrum allocation. The DoT and the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) are still working out the pricing and framework for satellite broadband spectrum.
Meanwhile, Amazon is also ramping up hiring for its Project Kuiper satellite communications venture, which is awaiting a satcom licence from the DoT and authorisation from IN-SPACe, Moneycontrol previously reported.
Through its subsidiary Amazon Kuiper Services India Pvt Ltd, the company earlier posted openings for roles including go-to-market strategy lead for India, head of telco business development, and project managers for its B2B and B2C operations.
