The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) is likely to float a global tender for the development of an aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facility at the upcoming Noida International Airport in Jewar by the end of next week, officials aware of the matter said.
They said that the land is being acquired for developing the MRO facility and a dedicated runway for it at Jewar airport, under the second phase of the airport project. They said that nearly 60 percent of the total land for the project has already been acquired, and the remaining will be acquired soon. A total of 1,365 hectares of land is to be acquired for the second phase of the airport project.
Officials also said that the land allotment process for this purpose is likely to begin by the end of the year.

A YEIDA official said that the land acquisition work under the second phase has been expedited. “Out of 1,365 hectares, nearly 814 hectares of land have already been acquired, which is around 60 percent of the targeted land under the second phase. This land will be used for setting up the MRO facility and a dedicated runway. A global tender for developing the MRO facility is likely to be floated by the end of October,” the official said.
The land under the second phase is being acquired from villages including Jewar Bangar, Tirthali, Dhanpura, Madalpur, Mahndipur, Faileda and Karauli, among others. The official said that the Authority has already distributed Rs 2,800 crore in compensation for the 814 hectares of land acquired so far.
Arun Vir Singh, CEO of YEIDA, said that at present, the country has around 600-700 aircraft, but the aviation sector is set to witness a boom, with the number of passenger aircraft likely to rise to 2,400-2,500 in the next three to four years. Hence, the country would need more dedicated MRO facilities to maintain and repair such a large fleet of planes.

“Hence, to meet this challenge, a state-of-the-art MRO facility will be developed at the under-construction Noida International Airport in Jewar. It will be developed in the second phase of the airport project. Small aviation industrial units supplementary to support the MRO facility will also be set up near the airport,” Singh told Moneycontrol.

He said that to promote MRO services, the Uttar Pradesh government has also brought out an MRO policy where a subsidy of Rs 12 crore is provided to eligible players. The players in this sector will also be given a GST exemption for 10 years. There are also provisions for land-related subsidies in the policy.
