AMFI warns mutual fund distributors against running contests for sales promotion

The mutual fund industry body observed that in spite of clear guidelines, incentivisation programmes were still being launched by members, wherein the successful contestants were offered foreign trips /rewards in the garb of “training programmes” at different overseas tourist destinations.

Mutual fund industry body 'Association of Mutual Funds in India' (AMFI), has issued a warning again, asking its members to desist from incentivising distributors/sub-distributors to garner higher business by way of foreign trips or trips to exotic tourist destinations.

In January, AMFI had issued an advisory on contests run by Asset Management Companies (AMCs) and mutual fund distributors (MFDs) for garnering higher business in mutual fund schemes, which was fine-tuned in March 2024.

However, the industry body observed that in spite of very clear guidelines, such incentivisation programmes were still being launched by certain MFDs, wherein the successful contestants (sub-distributors) were offered foreign trips /rewards in the garb of “training programmes” at different overseas tourist destinations.
