Several Swiggy users took to X, formerly Twitter, to highlight that the company has been incorrectly rounding off their food orders resulting in a discrepancy between the bill total and the actual amount paid by the customer.
The company has, however, said that the difference was because of a bug that threw up a display error and that customers were not being charged any additional amount.
According to the several screenshots that were floating around on social media on September 21, there was a difference of about Rs 3 between the bill total and the amount charged to customers.
Swiggy clarified that a bug showed an additional discount and that was is no longer the case.
"We confirm no customers have been overcharged and they have paid the correct amount. This was due to a tech bug, which we have fixed. We continue to deliver thousands of orders every minute to our customers," a Swiggy spokesperson told Moneycontrol.
Some users agreed that it was a glitch and that the invoice items were adding up.
"Turns out it might just be a display error. There's an extra Rs 3 discount on every order. Platform fee of Rs 5 (has already been) discounted to Rs 2....," a user posted on X. Despite the platform fee being discounted, the bug showed an additional Rs 3 discount which caused confusion.
The discrepancy comes at a time when Moneycontrol has reported that food orders have become costlier after companies like Swiggy have begun levying a platform fee of Rs 2-5 per order as food delivery giants look to turn profitable.
Taking a cue from food delivery companies, even e-commerce firms are now charging customers for convenience which has pushed up the cost of shopping online, as reported earlier.
