Market failed to build on the opening hours gains and remained rangebound throughout the session, with final hour selling pressure dragged the Nifty below 25,500 before closing near day's low amid selling across the sectors.
At close, the Sensex was down 148.14 points or 0.18 percent at 83,311.01, and the Nifty was down 87.95 points or 0.34 percent at 25,509.70. BSE Midcap index fell 1.2%, and smallcap index shed 1.5%.

Asian Equities (Down)
Asian stocks slipped at the open Friday after choppy trading on Wall Street, weighed down by concerns over stretched artificial intelligence valuations and signs of a cooling labor market.
US Equities (Slip)
US stocks closed in negative territory on Thursday, with a resumption of Tuesday's tech selloff as investors contended with mounting economic uncertainty and stretched valuations.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 397.35 points, or 0.84%, to 46,913.65, the S&P 500 lost 75.91 points, or 1.12%, to 6,720.38, and the Nasdaq Composite lost 445.80 points, or 1.90%, to 23,053.99.
Dollar Index (Flat)
The dollar retreated in early Asia trade on Friday, leading declines among major currencies as investors, lacking official data on the U.S. labour market, seized upon signs of weakness in private sector surveys.
US Bond Yield (Up)
The yield on 10-year Treasuries gained one basis point to 4.09 percent, while the yield on 2-year Treasury up marginally at 3.56 percent.
Asian Currencies (Mixed)
Asian currencies were trading mixed in the early trade on Friday with China Renminbi, Indonesian Rupiah, Malaysian Ringgit, Thai Baht are trading higher, while Singapore Dollar, South Korean Won, Taiwan Dollar, Japanese Yen are trading lower.
Crude (Up)
Oil edged up on Friday following three days of declines on worries about excess supply and slowing demand in the U.S., though prices appeared to be headed for a second week of losses.
Gold (Gains)
Gold held steady as traders balanced surprisingly weak US employment data with comments from a
Federal Reserve official that dampened expectations for further interest-rate cuts.
Fund Flow Action
Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) continued their selling on fifth straight session day as they sold equities of Rs 3263 crore on November 6. However, the Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) extended their buying on the 9th consecutive day as they bought equities of over Rs 5283 crore on the same day.
