Here are experts equity calls for the day on how the markets are expected to trade:

Chris Wood, CLSA: We would advise investors to assume that Asia will still remain correlated negatively to any further risk aversion, including a stronger dollar. Still this will set up a buying opportunity since the deflationary market action will accelerate the easing cycle. Ian Scott, Nomura: As we enter 2012, investor behaviour and market pricing are being heavily influenced by the risk of future events rather than the reality of current fundamentals. The collective memory of late-2008 and early-2009 is clearly at work and the fear of a repetition of a large credit 'event' with a cataclysmic effect on global growth is weighing heavily on sentiment.
