In the latest development in the fallout of the NSEL crisis, a complaint seeking criminal proceedings has been filed against the owners, promoters and officials of NSEL with the economic offences wing (EOW) of the Mumbai police, reports CNBC-TV18's Ashmit Kumar.
BJP leader Kirit Somaiya has filed a complaint with the economic offences wing of Mumbai and in the complaint allegations of cheat, fraud as well as forgery has been raised. Essentially, the complaint is targeted against the owners and the promoters of NSEL but the complainant didn’t quite stop there.
The complainant has also sought criminal action against the officials of NSEL, FMC as well as the ministry of corporate affairs (MCA).
The complainant has also sought action against the errant brokers as well as warehouse keepers on allegations that they issued forged documents. MCA was made party to the complaint because NSEL was allowed to operate outside the regulatory framework in 2007 and no regulator being appointed.
The complaint also pointed out warnings from FMC on similar issues in February 2012 close to 18 months ago but no action had been taken. So, the noose is starting to tighten around NSEL.
