Global markets gained as oil price volatility settled down, but headline risk related to Middle East and North Africa region remained on Friday

Global markets gained as oil price volatility settled down, but headline risk related to Middle East and North Africa region remained on Friday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average ended up 62 points or 0.51% at 12,130. It was down 2.1% for week while was up 2% MTD and up 4.8% YTD. The S&P 500 Index rose 14 points or 1% at 1,320; it was down 1.7% for week while was up 2.6% MTD and up 4.95% YTD. The Nasdaq Composite went up 43 points or 1.6% at 2,781; it was down 1.8% for week whereas was up 3% MTD and up 4.8% YTD. CBOE VIX fell 10% at 19.22 on Friday; it was up 17% for week and up 8% YTD while slipped 2% MTD. European markets ended higher on Friday: CAC was up 1.5%, DAX up 0.78% and FTSE up 1.13%. Asian markets opened mixed; Kospi was down 1%, Straits Times down 0.92% and Nikkei down 0.5%. Shanghai was flat.
