Kia India has unveiled the all-new Syros, which would be the fifth Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) in its lineup. While the bookings for the sub-four metre SUV will commence on January 3, 2025, deliveries will begin from February. The prices of Kia Syros are expected to be announced at the Bharat Mobility Show that will be held next month.
The South Korean carmaker revealed that Kia Syros will be positioned between the Sonet and Seltos SUVs. Once launched, it will be taking on the likes of the Maruti Brezza, Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV 3XO, and and the soon-to-be launched Skoda Kylaq.
Gwanggu Lee, MD and CEO of Kia India, stated, “With the Syros, we are further enhancing our product portfolio, offering a new species of SUV that combines superior comfort, cutting-edge technology, and bold design.” He also said India remains one of the most promising markets for Kia globally and the country is still the fastest growing economy in the world, promising a lot for carmakers.
The Kia Syros is based on K1 platform, which also underpins its Sonet entry-level SUV. It will be offered with a 1.0-litre turbopetrol engine mated either to a six-speed manual or a seven-speed DCT and a 1.5-litre diesel motor paired with a either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic. It will be available in four standard trims and two option trims- HTK, HTK (O), HTK+, HTX, and HTX+, HTX+(O).

Kia Syros gets a dual-tone interior with a two-spoke steering wheel and dual screens. It will be also be equipped with features such as Level 2 ADAS, front parking sensors, a panoramic sunroof, automatic climate control, hill-start assistance, electronic stability control, six airbags as standard. ventilated seats, and a 360-degree camera.
It also gets wireless charging, a rear sunshade, ambient lighting, rear AC vents, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, twin USB-C ports, an 8-speaker Harman Kardon sound system and connected car features with remote window ventilation.
Kia India revealed that it currently has a 15 percent marketshare in the compact and mid-SUV and MPVs segments. With the launch of Syros, the company is aiming to garner a total marketshare of 20 percent in all the three segments in the medium term.
“The combined segment which is around 18 lakh units (per annum), the company is looking to increase its market share to 20 percent in 2025 from 15 per cent, Kia India Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Hardeep Singh Brar told reporters on the sidelines of unveiling Syros.
Meanwhile, Kia India is aiming for a 20 percent growth in sales next year at 3 lakh units. The company expects to sell around 2.5 lakh units during calendar year 2024. According to Brar, the incremental volumes will be on the back of new rollouts such as Syros apart from other growth drivers such as increased government spending, a rise in job opportunities, and a normal monsoon.
