Honda Cars India to roll out hybrid and electric SUVs by FY27, says Prez & CEO

Takuya Tsumura was speaking on the sidelines of third-generation Amaze launch by HCIL. While the first generation of Amaze was introduced in 2013 followed by its next edition in 2018. HCIL sold 5.8 lakh units of the Amaze so far in the country.

Takuya Tsumura noted the carmaker continues to develop models, like hybrid and battery electric vehicles, that suit the Indian market.

With an aim to up the ante in low-emission vehicles, Honda Cars India Limited (HCIL) has announced that it plans to introduce three new models by financial year 2026-27.  Among the products lined up for rollouts, there will be a Hybrid Electric vehicle (HEV) and a Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV), said a top company official.

“We have an ambitious roadmap to cater to the evolving preferences of Indian consumers. While we continue to stay in mainstream ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) business in the coming years, our focus is to electrify powertrains including hybrids and BEVs,” said Takuya Tsumura, Honda Cars India President and CEO.

The wholly-owned carmaking arm of Honda Motor Company, currently sells just one SUV model - Elevate - in the market with the other two products being Amaze and City sedans.

"We plan to introduce three new nameplates within 2026-27, with hybrid and electric powertrains by 2026-27 fiscal. We will share more details of this models as our product development progresses,” added Tsumura. However, he didn’t reveal if the company is also working on a B-segment ICE SUV.
