Fantasy sports revenue drop hits India's real money gaming growth in 2024; Poker, Rummy shine

Revenue earned by fantasy sports platforms through commissions charged on the total contest fee spent by users fell to Rs 8,800 crore in 2024 from Rs 11,000 crore in 2023, according to a Redseer report.

Revenue earned by fantasy sports platforms through commissions on user contest fees dropped to Rs 8,800 crore in 2024, down from Rs 11,000 crore in 2023, according to a report by Redseer.

The year-on-year (YoY) growth rates went down significantly in the past few months for real money gaming. This decline was majorly driven by de-growth in fantasy sports which took a hit of 58 percent YoY, while other game categories saw growth with Poker reporting a 54 percent growth, Rummy 26 percent, and casual games 71 percent in terms of GGR.

The revenue matrix

While fantasy sports revenue fell, rummy's GGR grew to Rs 16,000 crore last year, up around 6 percent from Rs 15,000 crore in 2023.
