With the festival season already on, some analyst say lot of demand got absorbed in GST sales while other say pre-festive demand was strong. So to get a sense of the reality on ground, CNBC-TV18 spoke to Nilesh Gupta, Managing Partner, Vijay Sales.
The demand on ground is not too strong but good and encouraging, said Gupta, adding that Dussehra saw good sales growth of around 10 plus, similar to that of last year. The weekend before Diwali too saw good sales.
However, the September quarter was a bit tepid because of bumper sales in June, which was as good as Diwali sales. July was dry but August onwards it picked up. But the quarter would be flat, he said.
Discounts are similar that of last year but one can see a fervor to buy, which are propelling sales, said Gupta. The footfalls are steady.
The upcoming Diwali weekend is expected to be a bumper one, he said.
With regards to GST, he said as far as consumer durable is concerned it is over and not seeing negative effect of GST on sales, said Gupta.
He also spoke about how the manufacturers and preparing themselves of the new energy norms since January. If the companies announce that prices could go up post January then December could mini season sales where people may prepone their air conditioning sales, said Gupta.
