Swedish telecom equipment maker Ericsson is expanding its manufacturing operations in India in partnership with homegrown electronics contract manufacturer, VVDN. With this, India has joined Ericsson’s existing manufacturing locations in Mexico, Romania, and China that are exporting equipment to other countries.
A share of the antennas made in India will be exported, placing India as a central location in Ericsson’s global supply chain. The company aims to align product development with customer needs across different regions.
The move supports the company’s operations in India and integrates the country further into Ericsson’s global network.
By June 2025, Ericsson plans to localize all passive antenna production for the Indian market. The investment is aimed at faster delivery, closer work with local partners, and alignment with customer needs.
The move also supports India’s 5G rollout and strengthens Ericsson’s supply chain response both in India and abroad.
“Antennas are the starting point of network operations,” said Mikael Eriksson, Head of Ericsson Antenna System. “Our work in India improves delivery and brings operations closer to customers.”
Ericsson began operations in India in 1903 and started local manufacturing in 1994. Since then, the company has worked with Indian telecom providers on network deployments, including the introduction of the Ericsson Radio System and early 5G demonstrations.
The expanded EAS production is led by Ericsson teams and supported by suppliers. The approach is intended to meet global standards while responding to changes in the industry.
“This step marks our continued presence in India’s industrial and network sectors,” said Nitin Bansal, Managing Director, Ericsson India. “With local production and a wider support system, we aim to meet demand and address challenges across the supply chain.”
