RBI raises contactless card transaction limit to Rs 5,000

The increase in transaction limit will help expand adoption of digital payments, Governor Shaktikanta Das said in his address after announcing RBI Monetary Policy Committee's decision to keep repo rate unchanged at 4 percent.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has raised the contactless card transactions limit to Rs 5,000 from Rs 2,000, Governor Shaktikanta Das said while announcing the Monetary Policy on December 4. The new limit will be effective from January 1.

The MPC kept the repo rate unchanged at 4 percent.
