Spectrum auction: EGoM accepts Telecom Panel suggestions

Speaking to media after the EGoM meeting union telecom minister, Kapil Sibal said the government hopes to raise Rs 30,000-40,000 crore from one-time spectrum fee.

Empowered Group of Ministers (EGoM) on telecom has accepted telecom ministry's recommendations of 1800 & 900 MHz reserve price, informed union telecom minister, Kapil Sibal. He added that final decision has been taken and the same would be informed to the Cabinet.

Recommendations for the 800 mhz spectrum pricing will be given by TRAI and the Department of Telecom will finalise the quantum of spectrum to be auctioned. Speaking to media after the EGoM meeting, Sibal said the government hopes to raise Rs 30,000-40,000 crore from one-time spectrum fee. Spectrum auction will take place in third week of January. The minister said M&A guidelines were not discussed in the meeting today, and clarified that 900 mhz will not have reservations for any operator.
