State Bank of India’s (SBI) December quarter standalone profit fell 61.7 percent year-on-year to Rs 1,115 crore on higher provisions, which the market analysts call disappointing. In an interview to CNBC-TV18, Arundhati Bhattacharya, Chairman of the bank, says the regular slippages are coming down and were around Rs 5,900 crore this quarter against Rs 7,000 crore last year.On asset quality review (AQR), she says the bank is working on five-six large accounts. "However, these large accounts need time for resolution and because they were taking time, it was felt that we recognise them now," she adds.SBI has seen 12.88 percent growth in its Q3 credit, Bhattacharya says, adding, the bank may see around 13 percent credit growth going forward.Below is the verbatim transcript of Arundhati Bhattacharya’s interview with CNBC-TV18\\'s Alexander Mathew.Q: What are views on the bank's performance this quarter? A: If you look at what would have been in the regular slippages, it would have been in the range of Rs 5,900 crore or so and if you look at year-on-year (Y-o-Y) same Q3 last year we had about Rs 7,000 crore. So, regular slippages were coming down and they are still coming down. In respect of asset quality review (AQR) as you know even in earlier quarters I had always said that there are five or six very large accounts where we are working on workouts. But these large accounts they need time for resolution and for finding a proper solution and therefore because they were taking time and it was felt that it is time now that we sort of recognise it, provide for it and move ahead that is what has been done in the AQR.Q: Moving on to the advances numbers that you talked about 14 percent is what we discussed in the last quarter but you are saying because of the sharp increase in risk in the non-performing asset (NPA) your risk appetite has come down. You see that entering the new financial year as well and what do you think the year will for credit growth?A: We have done around Rs 12.88 percent. We did very well in the third quarter. We grew very well and therefore we had earlier said that we will be in the range of 13-14 percent. I still believe we will be around 13 percent. Yes, getting to 14 percent may be a little difficult given the fact that when any such big jumps in NPAs occur automatically in the rank and file some amount of risk aversion comes in. Therefore, increasing of advances numbers in these times becomes a bit of difficulty.
