Twitter India Head Rishi Jaitly has stepped down after a 4 year stint in the company. The move comes at a time when the micro-blogging site is struggling with a stagnant user base and slowing revenue growth.
Last week, Twitter said it would cut 9 percent of its global workforce or about 350 employees, in order to cut down its costs.
Jaitly in a series of tweets said, ”Building/leading Twitter India, and expanding Twitter Media across Asia Pacific & Middle East, was the leadership experience of a lifetime. Today, after 4 years of user/business momentum in India & the region, I’m sharing my intention to move on to new opportunities, same mission.”
“My mission remains the same: harness tech/media’s scale to connect users/citizens to their voice/agency/leadership in places they care about. I myself care deeply about the United States, India, emerging markets & intend to devote myself to building bridges in service of my mission,” he further tweeted.
Thanking the top brass of the company and the users he said, “While a personal/civic calling takes me to Chicago, I’ll spend significant time in India/Asia, drawing on my past to further tech's promise. I’ll always be grateful to Shailesh Rao for believing in me, to Katie Jacobs Stanton for her trust and to Dick Costolo for leaning into our global opportunity.”
“My teams led deals immersing Twitter in national zeitgeists, scaled our user base/business, re-imagined the product & entered new markets. In the end, though I was most inspired by Twitter’s users & partners in India, Asia & beyond for believing in this mobile microphone of ours.”
“You taught and you pushed. You grew with us and, often, made us look good. Your commitment to this mission assures me we’ll remain partners,” he added.Jaitly joined Twitter from the Knight Foundation. Prior to that he worked with Google India, where he ran public-private partnerships, public policy advocacy and government affairs in India and the South Asia region.
