Mahindra & Mahindra is planning to cash onto India’s fast growing taxi segment by revamping its Verito, reports today’s Livemint. The company plans to fill the void created by Ambassador.
Ambassador, which was sold-off by the Hindustan Motors to a French company PSA Group in February, was the first choice for taxi for its ruggedness and ability to maneuver on Indian roads.
It was also a preferred model by the government. Since its ban, Maruti’s SX4 has replaced Ambassador in the government.
Pawan Goenka, MD of M&M said the company is planning to make Verito the next Ambassador in the taxi space. Verito can be made more desirable than its counterparts by cutting price.
Verito was initially a joint venture between Mahindra and Renault SA and was called Logan. It was rechristened Verito after Mahindra got the full control.
According to Goenka, the car meets all the requirements for taxi – it is spacious, comfortable and economical. It only loses out on the looks parameter.
