While the street was expecting a marginally higher sales for Maruti Suzuki, the overall sales for December has degrown by about 4.5 percent. The sales came in at around 90,900 units versus about 95,000.
Domestic sales during the month stood at 86,613 units, up 5.5 percent from 82,073 units in December previous year, Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) said in a statement.Sales of mini passenger cars, including M800, Alto, A-Star and WagonR, were up 16.7 percent at 38,286 units in December as against 32,797 units in the year-ago period.
MSI said during the month, sales of its compact cars comprising Swift, Estilo and Ritz were at 19,171 units as against 22,482 units in the year-ago month, down 14.7 percent. Sales of compact sedan Dzire grew by 18 percent to 15,427 units as against 13,076 units in December last year, the company said.
Mid-sized sedan SX4 saw sales decline by 17.6 percent to just 271 units during the month as compared to 329 units in December 2012. Sales of utility vehicles, including Ertiga, Grand Virara and Gypsy were at 5,146 units during the period as against 5,447 units, down 5.5 percent , in the year-ago month.
Van sales, consisting of Omni and Eeco were at 8,312 units as compared to 7,897 units previous year, up 5.3 percent , it said. Exports in December were down 67 percent to 4,311 units from 13,072 units in the same month previous year, the company said.
Hyundai MotorMeanwhile, Hyundai Motor India Ltd reported a 2.58 percent increase in its total sales in December 2013 at 49,069 units as against 47,833 units in the same month of previous year.
The company's domestic sales were up 6.24 percent at 28,345 units during the month from 26,697 units in December 2012, Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) said in a statement.
Mahindra & Mahindra reported 12.55 percent decline in its total sales at 39,611 units in December 2013. The company had sold 45,297 units in the same month previous year, the company said in a statement. In December, M&M's domestic sales stood at 36,881 units as against 42,307 in the same month previous year, down 12.82 percent. Total sales of passenger vehicles, including Scorpio, XUV500, Xylo, Bolero and Verito, stood at 16,436 units during the month as against 22,761 in December 2012, down 27.78 percent.
Sales of the company's four-wheel commercial vehicles were up 5.05 per cent at 14,399 units as against 13,706 units in December 2012, it said. Its three-wheeler sales were up 7.62 percent at 5,606 units during December 2013 as against 5,209 units in the same month previous year. M&M's exports were down by 8.69 percent to 2,730 units during the month from 2,990 units in December 2012.
Commenting on the sales performance, M&M Chief Executive (Automotive Division) Pravin Shah said: "During the first nine months of the current fiscal, the auto industry has seen a negative growth due to sustained deceleration in economic activity and consequent weakness in consumer and business sentiments." While the immediate turnaround in the auto industry is not expected without certain policy corrections and support, the worst seems to be over, he added.
It reported 15 percent increase in total tractor sales at 17,037 units in December. The company had sold a total of 14,759 units in December 2012, M&M said in a statement. Domestic tractor sales were up 19 per cent at 16,257 units during the month, as against 13,712 in the same month the previous year, it added.
Exports during December 2013 were down by 26 percent to 780 units as against 1,047 units in the same month previous year, the company said. M&M Ltd Chief Executive (Tractor and Farm Mechanisation) Rajesh Jejurikar said: "...at the end of the first nine months of the current fiscal year, we have achieved a domestic growth of 24 percent. With expectations of a bumper Rabi crop, we believe we will see a double digit growth in the next three months. A continued shift towards greater mechanisation on farms will provide an impetus to sales."GM India
General Motors India today reported 19.27 per cent decline in sales in December 2013 at 5,705 units as against 7,067 units sold in the corresponding month previous year.
The December 2013 sales include 2,073 units of Beat, 1,282 units of Sail and 1,088 units of Chevrolet Enjoy, the company said in a statement.
Toyota Kirloskar
Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) today reported 12.21 per cent decline in its total sales at 12,622 units in December 2013.
The company had sold 14,378 units in the corresponding month previous year, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) said in a statement.
Ford India
Ford India today reported 2.84 per cent increase in total sales at 11,209 units in December 2013.
The company had sold a total of 10,899 units in the same month previous year, Ford India said in a statement. Domestic sales were down 9.9 per cent to 5,871 units in December as against 6,517 units in the same month previous year, it added.
