Face-off: Steel versus iron ore mining sector

The Karnataka iron ore miners hit back today, insisting they will not follow the prices offered by NMDC and rubbish allegations of cartelisation.

The Karnataka Steel Miners’ Association had levelled charges of cartelisation by iron producers in the state yesterday. Steel makers said prices of iron ore from state-run NMDC rose 7.6 percent from April 2013 to January 2014, compared to prices of private iron miners that rose by 122 percent in the same period.

Ninod Nowal, President, Karnataka Steel Makers Body and PK Mukherjee, Member Iron Ore Miners body shared their views on the matter.
