E-commerce companies have emerged as the second-largest occupier of office space after IT/ITeS sector during April-June period in the country's seven major cities, according to global property consultant CBRE.

Office space leasing rose by about 70 percent during April-June period at over 8 million sq ft in seven cities as compared to the previous quarter, driven by higher demand from online retailers that contributed 17 percent of the total absorption number.

These cities are Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Pune, Bengaluru and Hyderabad.

E-commerce overtook BFSI (Banking, Financial services and Insurance) as the second-largest occupier of office space in India after IT, CBRE said in a report on India Office Q2 2015.
