Dixon Technologies’ subsidiary Padget Electronics has signed a contract manufacturing agreement with NxtCell to produce Alcatel-branded smartphones in India.
NxtCell and Dixon are setting up a capacity of 1.2 million smartphones annually.
This partnership also enables the transfer of NxtCell’s proprietary, innovative technologies to India, integrating advanced display and hardware capabilities into domestic manufacturing operations, as per an official statement.
“This strategic association with NxtCell India will further strengthen our manufacturing excellence and execution capabilities,” said Atul B Lall, vice cairman & managing drector of Dixon Technologies (India) Limited.
Alcatel is a French tech brand operated by China's TCL under a brand trademark licence from Nokia. Nokia acquired Alcatel-Lucent in 2016 and now owns Alcatel, which started selling cordless mobile phones in India in 1996.
For its comeback, Alcatel has earmarked an initial investment of $30 million (approximately Rs 260 crore), which will be allocated toward manufacturing, building a supply chain, marketing and distribution, and brand development.
Ansh Rathi, chief operating officer of NxtCell India, stated, “Partnering with Padget Electronics allows us to tap into their world-class EMS expertise to produce premium Alcatel smartphones locally. From day one, Alcatel smartphones made in India will feature our patented display technology, reflecting our commitment to ‘Make in India’ through seamless technology transfer and advanced manufacturing.”
Rathi said the collaboration will help the brand in significant portfolio expansion and will unlock global export potential.
