Vishal Sikka, chief executive officer, Infosys is pleasantly surprised with the response received in Australia not just from the business community but also the government and the academics.
Speaking to CNN-IBN’s Marya Shakil, Sikka says the outlook for India- Australia digital ties look positive.
A digital India can mean a digital world, says Sikka who adds that digital technology is key to India and Australia and both these countries have been excelling at it.Below is the verbatim transcript of the interview.
Q: What kind of a response are you getting from the business leaders in Australia?
A: Very positive from not only business but also government and the academic leaders, extremely positive response. The digital India can mean digital world, can mean a digital Australia. So we are very excited especially in IT of course.
Q: You are excited about especially IT, what about infrastructure space?
A: Everything is going digital, infrastructure is going digital, mining with Australia is well known for -- digital mines are the future of mines. When you look at transportation and logistics which Australia is excellent at, the future of that is digital. More importantly the training, the education of all of these technologies that we have been excelling at and that Australia has been excelling at expanding all of that, so it is a great opportunities that have been opening up.
Q: Particularly at the Allphones Arena when the PM talked about modernization and complete upgradation of railways, the FDI in railways, that is one area you think India will get some support from Australia?
A: Yes, definitely. That speech of course was unbelievable. It was very inspiring to hear the Prime Minister speak the way he did from the heart and without preparation, it is quite an amazing performance. However, the railways of course is the lifeline of India, I grow up in the railway family, my father was an engineer in railways and anything that we can do to help improve that would be quite welcome and it is my deeply held belief that software and services can play very fundamental role in improving railways.
